Elastic Ownership?
Elastic Ownership is called that because it is meant to bend outwards, to fit into the specific needs of multiple people who want to own something special, like a painting, all at once.
For instance: you are looking at the TMT paintings page and come across the Wowbeast. For whatever strange reason, you must own the Wowbeast. You love the Wowbeast. Wow.
but you have less than the suggested 300 dollar/euro adoption fee. So what do you do?
Well, we can use the elasticity of elastic ownership to make an agreement where you only donate 150 to the Alba Fund, pay for shipping, get the painting, and agree to donate 150 more when or if the painting sells for more.
There's also other rules that are involved in the ownership: for instance, you agree to send a photo of the painting where you hang it, not to leave it in direct sunlight for more than three minutes, let us use it, if we need be, for an exhibition, and if you sell it, let us know.
And if you do sell it, the elastic ownership agreement lets everyone share in the profit. You share the most, of course, but the artist, curator, and even dealer can benefit in the sale, all depending on the agreement.
You may make a little less money off the sale of these paintings, but will, in return, continue to own a portion of the profits that the painting accrues over time.
Let's try to be even more clear:
How Elastic Ownership Works - Key Points
• It lets you pay for artwork in installments so you can bring home a painting today, which means art collecting becomes accessible even on a limited budget.
• It creates a paper trail of who's owned the painting so you can verify its history and authenticity, which means you know exactly what you're getting and can prove it to others.
• It splits future profits between current and previous owners so you continue to benefit if the painting appreciates, which means your connection to the artwork remains even after you sell it.
• It includes specific care instructions so you can maintain the painting properly, which means your investment remains in good condition for years to come.
• It documents where the painting has been displayed so you can contribute to its story and provenance, which means your stewardship becomes part of the artwork's history.
• It connects you directly with the artist so you can understand the creative intent behind the work, which means you get insights most art buyers never receive.
• It builds a community around each painting so you can be part of something larger than ownership, which means your purchase creates meaningful relationships.
• It allows for temporary exhibition loans so you can see your painting in professional gallery settings, which means you participate in the public art world.
• It treats the artwork as a living entity with its own journey so you can experience ownership as a relationship rather than a transaction, which means the painting becomes more than just a decorative object.
• It embraces the transpersonal nature of creativity so you can participate in art that exists beyond individual ego boundaries, which means you're connecting with something that transcends the personal and links you to broader creative forces!
